Basically those machines use the kinetic (following the famous formula E=1/2mv2) energy to crush.
This technology can give a good range of grades. This reduction principle allows a good form coefficient and as a counter effect can also produce fines that could be used as a side product (ex: recycle of the interstitial gold grain in mining applications).
